Dr. Richard W. Moore, a general dentist from Vancouver, Washington is a 1977 graduate of Northwestern University Dental School. Dr. Moore has lectured widely throughout North America since 1993, on the topic of dentistry's role in the management of the airway. An early member, he was elected to a three-year term (1996-1999) on the board of directors of the (ADSM) Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (www.dentalsleepmed.org), an international society dedicated to the dissemination of current information in this growing field of dentistry. He also served as the Chairman of the Corporate Relations Committee. Dr. Moore is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Efforts of the ADSM have resulted in concurrent international meetings with the Association of Professional Sleep Societies annually in June. The ADSM has members on standing committees of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Moore has limited his practice to airway management.

As President and CEO of a commercial dental laboratory and dental manufacturing company (Comfort Acrylics, Inc. - www.comfortacrylics.com), Dr. Moore has participated in the research and development of appliances that hybridize mandibular repositioning with nasal and oral positive airway pressure. Comfort Acrylics, Inc. is a certified, ISO 9001 compliant, medical device manufacturer, in compliance with all provisions of the federal code regulating the fabrication of medical devices. Dr. Moore is the co-inventor and developer of Talon®, a thermoplastic methacrylate sold to dental laboratories from Halifax to Perth.

National speaker on sleep disorders and cardiovascular disease. He has edited and consulted for sleep disorders-related articles for the Nurse Practitioner, Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. He has a comprehensive grasp of the full spectrum of sleep disorders. Dr. Zelk has provided Sleep Specialty Consultation for over a decade Oregon and Washington. He has been an invited speaker for the Sleep Consultants Network, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and a national speaker sponsored by Cephalon Pharmaceuticals. Other national sponsors have included Glaxo-Smith-Kline, and Sepracor. Dr. Zelk has been an investigator for for multi-site randomized controlled clinical trials on Requip XR and a novel hypnotic. He was a lead coordinator and was a chief sleep education advisor/consultant to the Sleep Disorders teaching videos series published and currently circulated by Wired.MD. This series is currently being used by large sleep diagnostic centers for improved patient education.

Dr. Zelk has completed a DNP residency with a concentration in Sleep Disorders Medicine and Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Zelk has been an adjunct faculty member of OHSU for several years since receiving his Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2011 from OHSU. Dr. Zelk has the distinction of being one of two DNP clinicians in the country to have obtained a CBSM designation. He has been an invited lecturer for dental sleep medicine and oral appliance therapy for the OHSU sleep medicine fellowship program and a guest lecturer for sleep disorders for the OHSU School of Nursing. Dr. Zelk is proud to have worked as a Clinical Director for a regional multi-site Sleep Disorders Center, which launched his interest in Interdisciplinary Management of Sleep Related Breathing Disorders. He has published articles both on the topics of Insomnia Management, Interdisciplinary Management of Sleep Disorders Breathing, Fatigue Management Protocols for Shift-Workers, The treatment of Excessive Somnolence, and multi-media presentations on complex cardiac valvular assessment, as well as, advanced assessment of complex electrocardiographic findings on the 12 lead ECG. He co-authored the dermatology chapter for the Guidelines for the Family Nurse Practitioner and is the co-inventor with Dr. Richard Moore for the Sleep Medicine Group "Nasal dilator splint." He has been actively working on developing a mainstream sleep disorders curriculum for medical practitioners.

Dr. Zelk is proud to have collaborated with Dr. Moore over the last several years in evolving the Interdisciplinary practice of Sleep Medicine and Dental Sleep Medicine to our current level of evolution. Dr. Zelk is active in the development of novel mandibular advancement devices to help promote the field of oral appliance therapy for OSA. We are at the forefront of both oral appliance therapy and hybrid therapy of oral appliance/with positive airway pressure therapy. Dr. Zelk has developed with Dr. Richard Moore an Interdisciplinary algorithm for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea.
